Week Thirty-One: “Keep On”

Where are we headed
I don’t know
There’s got to be something
up the road
The lives we’ve led
have laid us low
We got to keep on keeping on

How did we
become so old
I don’t recall
ever being told
that we’d have the buy
what we once sold
We got to keep on keeping on

Desperate baptists
poised for attack
Damien Echols
dressed in black

What are you drawing
my lonesome friend
When will this endless
river end
If you don’t break
then you will bend
We got to keep on keeping on

Men like us vanish
without a trace
shattered like visages
on a vase
The Indians warned us
about this place
We got to keep on keeping on

Beware of the cities
and all of their smoke
We thought that the hippies
were making a joke
but the smell of the air
will make you choke
You got to keep on keeping on

The rich will demolish
all that you’ve built
Only the poor
ever feel guilt

What are you drawing
my lonesome friend
When will this endless
river end
If you don’t break
then you will bend
We got to keep on keeping on

What are you drawing
my lonesome friend
When will this endless
river end
If you don’t break
then you will bend
We got to keep on keeping on
We got to keep on keeping on
We got to keep on keeping on
