Year Two, Week Four: “Bloodshot”

Lyrics:

Freddy woke up with an ache in his side
Eyes were as bloodshot as the burgundy wine
that he drank with a buddy whose face would turn ruddy
in a way that Freddy enjoyed

Freddy had a wife who had left for a week
She took a month’ worth of clothing, didn’t bother to speak
when he said that he’d miss her, she shed a tear when he kissed her
It was a scene she’d hoped to avoid

There’s gold in the hills and fat in the land
There’s red in his eyes and pain in his hands
Why can’t he grasp what she understands?
That when he’s crying, he’s crying for a man

The Quarter is bustling and Freddy’s alone
She mailed back her ring, and he pawned off the stone
There’s no pictures to pose, and for the first time he knows
what his heart want, what his heart wants, what his heart wants

It wants a man, it wants a man
it wants a man who knows how to move
And Freddy is so ready, is stock steady
with nothing to prove

There’s gold in the hills, and fat in the land
There’s red in his eyes, and pain in his hands
Now the world is broke open and he understands
when he’s crying, he’s crying for a man
